The first one is always special. You don’t know what is going to happen but it’s officially happening!
I proposed to meet her on Monday and she counterproposed to schedule the date on Thursday. By coincidence, Thursday was Valentine’s day. I couldn’t wish myself a better day for this first date! I decided to write a love poem, hand-written of course, because I’m old school. I wrote four stanzas of romantic literature, inspired by my deepest desires. I also made sure I brought a single, red rose. Girls love it when a guy they barely know, brings flowers to a date in a public setting. A bag of heart-shaped chocolates to surprise her at the end of the date? Check! Because on Valentine’s day, nothing is ever enough.
Just kidding. The girl and I didn’t care about Valentine. Trop commercial. We agreed that we prefer unexpected gestures all year round instead of a prescripted day.
The date itself was pretty normal, almost text book. I liked it. It was pleasant to have a date without too many distractions and limited phone use. Just good, plain ol’ conversation. There’s no need to have extraordinary events happening. The two of us were extraordinary enough. Sounds cheesy but that’s because there were a couple of cheesy moments during that date. Even though we knew at that point it was as cliché as it could get, we could still laugh with it and appreciate the situation.
I know you’re all dying to know which cocktails I drank that evening. Well, a Whisky Sour and a Negroni.
