I began this blog as a way to write consistently, develop my writing style and put my writings in the public space for scrutiny. In a sense, it’s an exercise in vulnerability.
The 69 Dates concept is a fun way to find inspiration and have a fil rouge over the course of time. I advocate actually going out on dates to shape my own experience and beliefs rather than sheepishly indulge myself with often flawed ideas from mainstream media and society. You could call me an evidence-based dater as opposed to an armchair dater. If you want a more technical, fancy term, Gonzo journalism it is.
Although I’m a single guy, if it were for banging chicks or finding a girlfriend, I wouldn’t need to complicate things by starting this blog (I’d use something more sexy like “69 girls in 69 days/ways” anyway). The main goal is thus to write. If I can provide you with amusing yet sharp insights, share good times or build something meaningful along the way, even better. Just remember, 69 Dates is a not-so-serious project about serious and not-so-serious topics.
What will I write about and how? My take on things like the quest for true connection, the beauty of little moments, love and romance, dating as a millennial. It will not be about a particular woman or any woman, nor will it be about using people to conduct a scientific study to find the holy grail. 69 Dates is about reaching out to people, having conversations and expressing viewpoints, my way. I don’t have a masterplan thought out nor do I know what the future holds. I’ll go with the flow and let it all evolve (but feedback always appreciated). That’s the magic of the project. Let women be my muse.
I established three principles:
- First dates only
- Girls need to know upfront about 69 Dates
- People stay anonymous
There’s one more thing. Me, myself, the aspiring-writer. My name is Andy. I’m a 30 years old Belgian with Chinese roots. I currently live and work in Dubai as solver of people and organisation problems for large organisations. I do Muay Thai to keep in shape and love to be involved in communities. My curiosity in human nature and behaviour formalised into a degree in psychology. I consumed a vast body of knowledge during my never-ending self-development journey. Combined with deliberate exposure to all types of new experiences, my analytical mind and ruthless observation, I’d say I can come up with fresh perspectives. If I would choose three -isms to describe myself, it would be pragmatism, minimalism and stoicism.
I make a world-class homemade iced tea and I also like peanut butter (I added this to compensate for the rather serious tone above).
